Website development / Website design / User experience

BACKGROUND

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs in England and Wales and the only Welsh first-class cricket club.

The Brief

Glamorgan County Cricket Club wanted to implement a new integrated digital strategy to better engage with fans, sponsors, hospitality buyers, local companies, media, the local community and other stakeholders. Previously, Glamorgan County Cricket Club and their venue, Sophia Gardens sat on different websites which focused mainly on sharing news about the club and venue. Both properties needed to feature on one digital platform that not only allowed visitors to find information, stats and the latest news quickly and easily but also gave Glamorgan Cricket a user-friendly platform to promote the sponsorship opportunities and facilities at Sophia Gardens as well as sell tickets for both match-day and non-match day events.

A DIGITAL ALL-ROUNDER

Glamorgan County Cricket Club wanted to create one place where people could come to find all the information they might need about the club and their home at Sophia Gardens.

Visitors to their new website can instantly access the latest news, event information, player profiles and results, including live score-updates in real time as well as last-match and next game details.

HOWZAT FOR USER EXPERIENCE?

The match zone area of the website provides visitors with further information about Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s most recent game and the site also features full fixture lists highlighting all of their First XI and Second XI fixtures for the current season, as well as the First XI tables.

Visitors can also explore detailed player profiles.

It was also important to provide match-day information for visitors to Sophia Gardens.

The website includes hours of play, a seating plan, directions to the venue and other details that will give fans a more enjoyable match-day experience.

We also needed to make it easy for visitors to buy tickets, club membership and hospitality packages.

Pages were designed for each membership category and every available hospitality package, highlighting the benefits of each and featuring clear calls to action for people to be able to purchase the membership or package that was right for them.

FIELDING MORE THAN CRICKET FANS

As a venue, Sophia Gardens attracts more than just cricket fans.

The website needed to appeal to a wider audience, from individuals and groups seeking stadium tours to businesses looking for a conference venue and people who want to join community cricket clubs.

Specific sections were created highlighting the stadium tours, community programmes and venue hire opportunities.

AVOIDING DIGITAL STICKY WICKETS

As well as the front-end functionality of the site, the website development also needed to factor in some technical aspects.

A newsletter sign-up was required so that visitors could complete their details to receive the latest news from the site.

Members of staff from Glamorgan County Cricket Club needed to be able to edit and update all content and imagery. Luckily, since our content management system is built on a responsive website design, they can now do that from any device, whether mobile, tablet or desktop.

The site also needed to integrate with Opta Stats to display player, match and fixtures information and DeeServe for live streaming.
