Delivering a 50th-anniversary website for The Royal Mint Museum
2018 marks the 50th anniversary of The Royal Mint’s move to South Wales. To celebrate this momentous year, The Royal Mint Museum has commissioned us to design and develop a special microsite.
Located on the site of The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, the Royal Mint Museum aims to advance the education of the public in the history of coins and medals and the history of the Mint.
The new microsite will form an important part of the celebrations and commemoration of this special year.
A minty-fresh microsite
Complementing the existing Museum website, the microsite will focus on The Royal Mint’s move from Tower Hill in London to Llantrisant in 1968, the subsequent opening by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the events, achievements and developments that have taken place at The Royal Mint over the last 50 years.
Launching in the autumn, the microsite will be built using our bespoke content management system, thinkCMS.
Featuring a variety of media, including images, videos and audio about The Royal Mint, the bilingual microsite will offer visitors an interactive, family-friendly, easily-accessible experience.
Easy to navigate, simple to edit
The microsite will allow Museum staff to edit content, images and other media, as well as giving people the opportunity to upload their photographs and memories of The Royal Mint. This can then be shared through social media channels.
With its responsive website design, the microsite will be viewable on any device, whether desktop, mobile or tablet. Incorporating user-experience principles, it will offer simple navigation and focus on visuals and imagery so that it can be used by visitors both young and old.
The story behind The Mint
Dr Kevin Clancy, Director of the Royal Mint Museum, told us:
“We’re excited to be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Royal Mint being in Wales and are looking forward to working with UpriseVSI to design and develop a dynamic microsite. This will allow people to learn the story behind The Royal Mint’s half-century in Wales. It will form a vital part of our celebrations and provide us with an attractive, informative platform for us to engage and interact with everyone who visits the site, as well as being an educational resource for local schools and the local community.”
Bringing history to life
Our own MD, Gareth Jones, had this to add:
“We’re very proud to be working with such an important and influential organisation. As someone who grew up near to The Royal Mint, I am very aware of the importance and impact that it has had on Wales. We are looking forward to working with the team at the Museum to create a modern, interactive microsite that will really bring the history of The Royal Mint in Wales to life.”
