REF go responsive
a new website for Race Equality First
We’re proud to have been appointed to design and develop a new responsive website for Race Equality First (REF) following a competitive tender process.
Race Equality First is one of only four Race Equality Councils in the UK, and the only one based in Wales. As the name suggests, REF aim to address racial equality, however the organisation also deals with other forms of discrimination across all the equality strands of the Equality Act 2010 including age, sex, disability, religion and sexual orientation.
REF was established over 40 years ago and provides support, advice, leadership and an influential voice for people who face harassment and hate crimes not only in Wales but also across the UK. Their vision is to create a society where all individuals have equal rights without discrimination.
In order to reach and connect with their different audiences, REF requires a website that appropriately positions them within the digital world. It is particularly important for REF to resonate with a younger audience and to clearly communicate what they stand for in order to help educate future generations about equality.
To achieve this, the new website will be very much image led but will also clearly communicate REF’s key messages and be easy to navigate. It will be a responsive design to ensure a seamless user experience across mobile and tablet devices. One of the main objectives of the website will be to simplify the process of reporting hate crimes so that victims can quickly and easily get the support and advice they need.
The new website will be built using our thinkCMS Content Management System, which will allow REF to quickly and easily update the website in-house. This will provide them with full control of the website allowing them to amend and upload content and images as and when they need to. They’ll also have the functionality to add and edit pages as required.
In this digital era, we tend to turn to Google whenever we have a problem. With this in mind, it’s important that REF ranks well within search engines to ensure that it can give people the information and support that it needs to when suffering from hate crimes. As well as making use of the built in SEO features of thinkCMS, we’ll be working with REF to improve its rankings for various relevant keywords.
We’re delighted to be working with an organisation that offers such an important service. Furthermore, it’s exciting to work on a project that could really make a difference to those who face the injustice of inequality.
